The research group »Historical Building Research« is dedicated to the scientific investigation of the built cultural heritage, applying integrative methods of building documentation and building analysis. Chronologically, the projects span from antiquity until the modern era. In the framework of specific thematic positions and contextual architectural studies, research projects ensue which focus on the longevity, the history of deterioration, and the transformation of structures and supporting structures, in order to shed light on and to classify the respective architecture, its usage and significance in the associated chronological context. Theoretical discourses on the discipline of building research, as well as questions regarding monument conservation as related to the preservation and the mediation of historic architecture constitute an additional area of study.
