For Neolithic mining (and the initial preparation of the mined raw materials on site) various tools made of particular materials (antler, chert and other rocks) were employed. Additional to a typological classification, use wear analyses allow reconstructing and differentiating their original function.

This research is examining the forming, firing and surface finishes of Early and Late Neolithic ceramics from the site of Çukuriçi Höyük, Western Turkey to diachronically and spatially characterise the technological choices and behaviours of this early community.

The ceramic element of this project investigates the typology, raw materials and technology used to make Early-Middle Neolithic Starčevo pottery from the site of Svinjarička Čuka in Serbia.

The analytical element of this project uses thin section petrography, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy and neutron activation analysis to investigate the raw materials and firing practices used to make Early to Late Bronze Age ceramics from the settlement of Achaia Pheneos.

This project investigates raw materials and technological practices used to make Late Bronze to Early Iron Age pottery from the Ada Tepe goldmine in Bulgaria. It examines provenance, specifically the degree to which pottery/technological knowledge was brought with the mining community, and questions about the diachronic development of ceramics at the site.
