VieCPro, funded by the Innovation Fund and led by Marion Romberg and Maximilian Kaiser, is a project in cooperation with the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies (IHB) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The ACDH is an associated research partner.
The VieCPro project aims to create a comprehensive prosopographical database of the early modern Viennese Court, addressing a long-standing research need. More specific its focus is on an advanced digital infrastructure for documenting the courts of Leopold I, Joseph I, and Charles VI. The project leverages and enhances the innovative digital methods developed at ACDH, specifically the APIS (Austrian Prosopographical Information System) virtual research environment, to pioneer new approaches in prosopographical data modeling and visual analysis.
The VieCPro database will significantly advance data-driven research and make previously unpublished datasets on courtiers, staff, offices, and networks of the Viennese Court more accessible. The infrastructure developed will mitigate project implementation risks and support the long-term vision of a digital reference portal.
The project also developes and applies methods (partly AI driven) to refine legacy data, merge duplicates in an efficient manner and batch create entries from yearly published books (such as the “Staatshandbücher”).
The ACDH provides an APIS instance as a database, helps to structure the data from the previous projects and developes a front end that makes the data easily accessible.
