The Austrian Science Fund (FWF)-funded project FemCare Vienna, led by Michaela Binder and carried out at Novetus, is analyzing the history of medical care for women at the Elisabethian Hospital in Vienna.

The interdisciplinary research is based on both historical and bioarchaeological sources. The project focuses on the life stories of 390 patients from the 18th century whose human skeletal remains were buried and archaeologically excavated from the hospital cemetery.

The St. Elisabeth Hospital in Vienna was founded in 1710 and was only open to women who received medical treatment there. It is still located at Landstraßer Hauptstraße 4a as part of the Franziskus Hospital.

The ACDH acts as a cooperation partner via OpenAtlas, a database software that enables the collection, processing, and management of research data and serves as the basis for a web application once data recording is complete.
