In cooperation with the University of Vienna, the project, led by Christian Danz, aims at creating a critical, open-access hybrid edition of the 1955/56 Harvard lecture “Religion and Culture” by Paul Tillich. There is no known manuscript of this lecture by Tillich himself, but various textual witnesses do exist. This project will edit the various sources and cretate for the first time a freely accessible digital edition of this lecture as well as a print edition.
The lecture itself is a critical piece in the understanding of Tillich’s thoughts on culture and religion, spanning sociological, aesthetical, political and psychological considerations on the topic.
As a cooperation partner, the ACDH is responsible for the creation of the online hybrid edition and the long-term archiviving of the TEI XML files.
