The research topic Language Contact bundles research projects in which the most diverse language contact phenomena and language contact constellations of the past and present are examined. The areal linguistic focus of the language contact constellations is primarily on Austria and the Habsburg Monarchy (and here on the contact of German with Slavic languages) as well as on North Africa and the Middle East (see WIBARAB), North Africa (see TUNOCENT), the Middle East (see SHAWI), the Eastern Mediterranean (see DLYS) as well as the Balkans and Iran (see Zargari).
