“Hanslick online” was conceived as a central hub for modern Hanslick research, aiming to provide the writings of this author through digital editions. It currently features editions of his treatise On the Musically Beautiful (covering all ten editions) and his writings for the Neue Freie Presse (in progress). In 2025, the reviews of the initial edition of his treatise were added, along with edited material related to On the Musically Beautiful (including excerpts from Hanslick’s personnel file from the University of Vienna Archive, among other sources). The platform provides texts encoded in TEI/XML, complete with annotated named entities (people, places, and works) and corresponding indices. Additionally, “Hanslick online” offers an overview of Hanslick’s contributions as an aesthetic theorist, scholar, and music critic, along with the history of Hanslick research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) and the resulting research outputs.
