The primary objective of the project (2014–2020) was to convert the liturgical rule books from the (Arch)Dioceses of Salzburg, Passau, Freising, Regensburg, Brixen, and Seckau, as well as the monasteries of Hirsau, Klosterneuburg, Passau St. Nikola, Regensburg St. Emmeram, Vorau, and the collegiate monastery of Moosburg, into the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) encoding standard. This methodology not only ensures efficient searchability of the data set but also creates a wide range of opportunities for data analysis. The formal encoding enables automatic comparison of the liturgical witnesses, yielding insights into shared features and distinctive characteristics.

The TEI-encoded data is stored in the Humanities Asset Management System (GAMS) at the Department of Digital Humanities (previously Centre for Information Modelling) at the University of Graz. During the transfer of the source data to the digital archive, RDF representations of the texts are generated and stored in a triplestore (Blazegraph) with Sesame connectivity, allowing for complex search queries. The image data of the digitized manuscripts are integrated through a IIIF interface from www.cantusplanus.at.
