Born 1978, MA studies at the Institute for South Asian, Tibetan and Buddhist Studies, University of Vienna.

Christian Ferstl worked at the Institute from January 2012 to August 2014. He was engaged in the project Fragments of Indian Philosophy. In this context he is gathering and studying references to early Indian thinkers whose works are only known from fragmentary or indirect evidence. His particular research interests are centered on Sanskrit kāvya literature. His MA thesis includes an annotated translation (in German) and a detailed study on various historical aspects of the farce Mattavilāsaprahasana, written by the early 7th century Pallava king and author Mahendravikramavarman. The subject of his current PhD project is Pāśupata Śaivism as it is represented in Sanskrit and Prakrit poetical works written between the 1st and 10th centuries CE (Abstract).
