Description: Johann Bertusch was one of the last speakers of the Sathmar Swabian dialect from the Petrești village, Satu Mare County. He recalls the poor economic conditions of his childhood. Johann Bertusch narrates about the fact his father refused to buy him a bicycle and an accordion, because of the Sathmar Swabian thriftiness.

EVERYBODY USED TO SPEAK SWABIAN
Description: Johann Bertusch reports about the linguistic situation in his native village Petrești. During his childhood everybody used to speak there just the Sathmar Swabian language variety. He also recalls memories about the Swabians who assumed a Hungarian identity and the conflicts that emerged from the confrontation of the pro-Hungarian and pro-German factions in the Swabian villages.
