…has studied German and English at the University of Vienna and acquired a teaching degree. He worked as a researcher and project coordinator at the Special Research Programme Deutsch in Österreich (German in Austria). His research interests are language variation, especially of German varieties in Austria, with a focus on variation in grammar and lexis, and classification in linguistics more broadly.

At the ACDH, Markus is part of the newly formed group Project Management and Consulting, which is part of the research unit DH Research & Infrastructure. This group works to standardize and formalize the array of ACDH services for projects. He is also part of the project DynAT: Language Dynamics in Austria, working in the following task areas:

Coordination and conceptualization of Linguae Austriacae: Platform and Information System on Language(s) in Austria (LAPIS), project management, conceptualization and coordination of the Atlas on Lexical Variation in Austria in the 21st Century (LexAT21), project management of the Lexical Variation of Austrian Dialects in the 20th Century (LexVAD20) project. Markus is also a member of the CLARIN K-Centre GermanAT and is currently working on his dissertation on Progressive Aspectuality in German.
