... was born in West Styria in 1969 and went to school at the BG + BRG Köflach. Beginning in 1987, she studied Musicology (under Rudolf Flotzinger) and a combination of courses at the University of Graz (Diploma examination in 1994). In 2007 she defended her doctoral thesis at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. From 1992 until 2024 she worked at the Styrian, then the Austrian, and finally again at the Styrian Volksliedwerk as a researcher. Her responsibilities there included research and publication (Corpus Musicae Popularis Austriacae, Jahrbuch des Österreichischen Volksliedwerkes, contributions to journals and collections, song books, audio recordings …), the Liederdienst as well as music education. In addition, Hois worked from 1996 to 2001 in the Special Research Area “Moderne” at the University of Graz, received research commissions by the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 2007 to 2010, and taught at the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory in Graz from 2017-2019. She is deputy chairwoman of the Research Commission of the Österreichische Volksliedwerk and member of the Fachbeirat für Interkultur und Volkskultur of the City of Graz. Since 2024, the passionate singer and cultural mediator has been studying applied ethics at the University of Graz.

Her research interests include traditional Austrian and especially Styrian music, the history of folk music research in Austria, including the people involved in it, as well as the history of songs.

Since 2026, she is a member of the department of Musicology at the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities. As Academy Scientist, she is responsible for data collection at the Austrian Encyclopedia of Music (oeml).
