
Tomiris Nurgaliyeva-Kamiński, BA MA
... has completed her Bachelor's degree with a major in Linguistics and Literature and a minor in History at Nazarbayev University, Astana, Kazakhstan, in 2023. From 2021 to 2023, she was a research assistant in the "Multimedia Corpus of Modern Spoken Kazakh Language" project. Simultaneously, she was an intern at the Writing Center of Nazarbayev University, where she worked on and presented an individual research project on native-speakerism bias in multilingual university classrooms. In 2024, she received a scholarship and finished her Master's degree in Nationalism Studies with distinctions at Central European University in Vienna, Austria. During the course of the study, she studied the history of printing in the 1930s Soviet education system and the content of the school textbooks in the Kazakh ASSR. Her master's thesis is titled "Labor, School, and Nation: On the Formation and Idea of the Modern Kazakh Nation on the Example of School Textbook in 1930 KazASSR".
From February 2026 to May 2026, she was an intern at the Austrian Academy of Sciences' ACDH under Hanno Biber's supervision.
From June 2026, she has been a predoctoral assistant in the research unit Literary and Print Culture Studies in the area of Periodicals and Corpora.
