LIFE IN THE VILLAGE ASANBEGOVO

Description: Farije Xajredin describes the everyday life of the Roma in the village called Čento (formerly Asanbegovo), by focusing on the traditional occupations, food and clothing. She briefly explains the term četvorčije ‘sharecroppers’, which in the Macedonian context used to refer to persons who work someone else’s land with an agreement that they can keep one quarter of the crop. She concludes that the inter-ethnic relations between the Roma and the Albanians used to be peaceful.
