Astrid Schweighofer is a research associate in the research unit History of the Habsburg Monarchy.
Studies of Protestant Theology and History/French at the University of Vienna. 2013 PhD in Protestant Theology at the University of Vienna (2018 „Förderungspreis der Stadt Wien“ in the category Humanities for her PhD thesis „Religiöse Sucher in der Moderne. Konversionen vom Judentum zum Protestantismus in Wien um 1900“). From 2008 to 2012 and 2014 to 2020 prae doc and post doc at the Institute for Church History, Christian Archaeology and Ecclesiastical Art at the Faculty of Protestant Theology in Vienna, in October 2019 visiting scholar at the IEG Mainz. Several years of experience in journalism (from 2007 to 2014 freelancer at the Austrian Broadcast, radio Ö1). Since December 2020 at the IHB of the ÖAW (50%), since March 2020 at the KPH Wien/Krems (50%). In 2023 she obtained the Venia Legendi for the field of Protestant Theologie/Church History (Habilitation thesis „Im Streit für Christus – Nikolaus Gallus und die lutherische Konfessionsbildung“).
President of the „Gesellschaft für die Geschichte des Protestantismus in Österreich“ and member of, among others, the „Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Theologie“ and the Scientific Advisory Board of the „Europäische Melanchthon-Akademie Bretten“.
