The mini-arc melting furnace can melt metals/metalloids and alloys with high melting points up to 3500 °C. The melting process involves an electric arc between the non-consumable tungsten electrode and the copper crucible. The arc furnace is very useful for developing new alloys based on Ti, Zr, Fe, Co, and Ni. The molten liquid metal/alloy can either be solidified inside the crucible or suction cast into the copper mold that is attached to the copper crucible. It is capable of melting nonreactive and reactive metals up to 20g
