This module consists of a small specimen stage being able to move in the Y—Z plane normal to the tensile direction (X-axis) to adjust the position of the specimen for clamping. The specimen stage is connected with the main stage, which is driven by a motor. The other end of the sample can be clamped with a piezo driven tweezer or other custom designed clamps depending on the specimen geometry. The force is measured with a tungsten wire held under tension within a magnetic gap for the load measurement. The measuring principle is based on the detection of the frequency and its change during loading of the oscillating wire enabling a load resolution of 10 µN and a maximum load of about 2 N. A linear variable differential transformer is used to measure the displacement during the tests.
