Three high-pressure torsion (HPT) devices with different maximum load capacities and torque are available, which allow samples sizes depending on the material of up to 100 mm in diameter.

The advantages of HPT:

  • almost no restrictions in applicable strains
  • applicable to materials which are difficult to deform
  • simple variation of processing parameters, such as temperature, strain rate, pressure and strain path (cyclic HPT)
  • simple tool for powder consolidation into bulk form
  • transformation of consolidated powders into nanocomposites
  • possibility to estimate the evolution of the flow stress by measuring the applied torque

Large HPT device:

  • Maximum force: 10 MN (1000 tons)
  • Maximum Torque: 127.000 Nm
  • Deformation temperature: room temperature

Medium HPT device:

  • Maximum force: 4 MN (400 tons)
  • Maximum Torque: 10.000 Nm
  • Deformation temperature: room temperature to 400°C
  • Designed in collaboration with Walter Klement GmbH

Small HPT device:

  • Maximum force:  400 kN (40 tons)
  • Maximum Torque: 500 Nm
  • Deformation temperature: -196°C and 500°C
