International Symposium on Hearing 2025
Advances in Auditory Physiology, Perception, and Cognition
The 20th International Symposium on Hearing will take place in Vienna, Austria, from June 1 to June 6, 2025. The venue of the symposium is Hotel Schloss Wilhelminenberg, a former grand imperial retreat with a spectacular view over Vienna. Participants will be accommodated on site in order to create an intimate atmosphere and stimulate close exchange of ideas.
ISH meetings have a long tradition of bringing together researchers from different areas of hearing science, including psychophysics, physiology, and auditory modeling. The ISH2025 will be open also to the emerging field of auditory cognitive neuroscience. Consistent with previous format, we invite innovative unpublished contributions from any of these areas. Contributions will be considered for either oral or poster presentation. Besides established researchers, we also encourage contributions from younger researchers (e.g., late PhD phase) for whom a reduced registration fee will be offered by means of studentships.
There will be a ISH2025 Special Issue in the open-access journal Trends in Hearing.

Decisions on contributions will be based on extended abstracts (400 words). The number of accepted contributions will be limited to approximately 100.
Authors of accepted oral presentations will have the opportunity to submit an associated publication in an ISH2025 Special Issue, which will be published in the peer-review open-access journal Trends in Hearing. Deadline for submission of full papers will be after the symposium, in early fall 2025. There will be a 50%-discount on publication fees (publication will be exclusively online). To avoid publication delays, the manuscripts will be published on a rolling basis.
Abstract submission: November 1, 2024
Abstract deadline: December 15, 2024
Acceptance decision and opening of registration: January 15, 2025
Registration deadline: February 12, 2025
Manuscript deadline for the Special Issue: approximately September 2025

About
About
About ISH (in short)
The International Symposium on Hearing (ISH) is held typically every three years in Europe since 1969. This interdisciplinary meeting brings together established researchers as well as young talents specializing in physiology, psychophysics, cognition, and modeling of hearing. Its aim is to stimulate discussion on the mechanisms underlying auditory perception and provides the basis for a better understanding of auditory function. Modelling approaches complement the experimental studies and serve as a framework for interpreting the results and developing new experimental paradigms. The topics cover fundamental concepts of neural coding and signal processing at various levels along the auditory pathway, consequences for auditory perception in various acoustic environments, as well as implications for behavioral and cognitive aspects of auditory perception, and compensation strategies for people with hearing impairment. The 2025 meeting pursues its predecessors, with emphasis on advances in auditory physiology, perception, and cognition.
ISH is a small collegial meeting typically held in a cloistered setting. The program is limited to 50-60 podium presentations of about 20 min. There are no parallel sessions, and participants are expected to attend the majority of the sessions throughout the week. Authors of accepted contributions will be encouraged to submit a full paper to an ISH2025 Special Issue, which will be published in the peer-review open-access journal Trends in Hearing. A limited number of poster presentations (without publication) will also be scheduled.
The total number of participants, including podium speakers, is limited to about 120. Presentations will be selected by the organizing committee on the basis of scientific excellence and topic. Due to the restricted number of participants, we can only accommodate a limited number of authors for each accepted paper to attend the conference.
