Microphone Array – Acoustic Camera

A microphone array is a collection of microphones with a well-known geometry. It is possible to localize acoustic sources based on mathematical tools. A camera is often added to the microphone array superposing the graphical plot of the sources with a picture of the aggregate. The combination is called an acoustic camera. The methods for the localization are manifold.

Methods are developed in the LION project (FWF Project I 4299‑N32: Localization and Identification of Moving Noise Sources), that include a moving source, as they often occur in traffic, using modified and newly developed tools for the localization of the acoustic sources.
