Use of ÖAW websites

Use of the ÖAW websites (i.e. www.oeaw.at and all sub-domains and sub-pages as well as the websites of ÖAW member institutes without own legal identity and commissions) is basically possible without giving any personal data. However, there may be different regulations for the use of specific services to which we make separate reference in each particular context.

When calling up our websites, information is transmitted to us such as your IP address. This information provides indications, for instance, about the end device being used (computer, Smartphone, tablet, etc.), the browser being used (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, etc.), the time of access to our websites and the data volume transmitted. We do not use this data to identify the individual user. The information is processed for reasons of system security (e.g. protection against misuse). The information serves in particular to further improve the information and service offer of the ÖAW websites and to make them more interesting.

Cookies

In order to improve our web offer and design the use as optimally as possible for you, we use cookies on the ÖAW websites. Cookies are small text files which are deposited on your electronic end device (e.g. computer, tablet, Smartphone) in order to make further allocation of your browser possible. Cookies store information such as the duration of your visit to our homepages or your data entered in web forms such as event registrations. This avoids having to enter all required data with each use.

When visiting our websites, you receive more information on the use and application of cookies via the cookie notice positioned above our homepages.

Web analysis tool Matomo (Piwik)

On the ÖAW websites, Matomo (Piwik) is used for statistical evaluation of the number of visitors. This is an open source web analysis tool. It uses cookies, text files stored on your computer which make possible analysis of the use on your part of the ÖAW websites. The information generated by cookies about your use of the ÖAW websites (including your IP address) are stored at ÖAW. We use the evaluation which Matomo compiles to generate reports on the websites activities and in order to optimise ÖAW websites in a targeted manner. The IP address is stored anonymously.

You can prevent the storage of cookies with a corresponding configuration of your browser software. But we draw your attention to the fact that you, in that case, may possibly not be able to use all functions of the ÖAW websites to the full extent.

Security

We deploy technical and organisational security measures to protect your data against manipulation, loss, destruction and against access by third parties. Our security measures are constantly improved to keep pace with technical developments.

All information which we receive from you, such as your name, your email address, your belonging to a company or an institution, are transmitted and protected between your browser and our web server by means of SSL (Secure Socket Layer). The security server software encrypts all of the information you enter before transmitting it to us. The information is only decrypted after reaching our server. This prevents unauthorised parties from reading, modifying, interpreting or copying this information during the data transmission and prevents anyone from later transmitting it again.

Our website contains links to other websites. Compliance with relevant data protection regulations for these websites is the responsibility of the operators of the respective website and is therefore beyond the sphere of influence of ÖAW. We are therefore neither liable for the data protection strategies nor the contents of these other websites.
