Building
The main seat of the OeAW at number 2 Dr. Ignaz Seipel Platz is an architecturally impressive building with a long and remarkable history. Designed by Jean Nicolas de Ville-Issey and built in 1753/55, it was originally intended for the University of Vienna. In 1857 it was handed to the then “Imperial Academy of Sciences”, which Emperor Ferdinand I had founded ten years earlier. The middle of the building is formed by the festive hall with its elaborate ceiling frescos by Gregorio Guglielmi.
