The research unit "Literary&Textual Studies" is dedicated to the exploration, analysis, and public communication of literary and textual cultural heritage via state-of-the-art Digital Humanities methods.

The unit’s central objects of research are (literary) texts from Austria and Central Europe, such as correspondences, pamphlets, poems, prose, diaries, plays as well as periodicals and newspapers, which are studied, edited, and made available in scholarly digital editions as well as corpora and text collections.

What unites the projects in the research unit “Literary & Textual Studies” is their aim to adapt and transform established forms of textual analysis for their use in the digital sphere. Moreover, they seek to further develop modern technologies to gain new insights into literary and textual cultural heritage under investigation. A major concern of the research unit is to ensure the open-access publication of all texts, research data, and findings.
