Project title: Integrating genetic, archaeological and historical perspectives on Eastern Central Europe, 400-900 CE
Duration: 2020-2026
Where did the people of the “Migration Period” come from? What traces did the many immigrations and emigrations leave in Europe's early medieval societies? Walter Pohl is investigating questions like these with his partners in an ERC Synergy Grant project. Under Austrian project management, historians, archaeologists, geneticists, anthropologists, and specialists from other areas are analyzing around 6,000 grave finds using the latest scientific methods to gain completely new perspectives on the early Middle Ages.
