Here you will find frequently asked questions and answers about the most important corona-related safety precautions at the OeAW.

All facilities of the OeAW are accessible to employees and members of the Academy in compliance with the applicable safety regulations. We ask for your understanding that, for safety reasons, external visits are only possible after prior registration.

Do I have to wear a mask in the building?

In accordance with the currently applicable guidelines, all OeAW members and visitors are asked to cover their mouth and nose in general and publicly accessible areas of the OeAW. In any case, there must be a distance of at least 1 meter from other people.

Smaller meetings and lectures, such as workshops or seminars, are possible in compliance with the requirements decided by the federal government or regional authorities. Of course, compliance with the distance and hygiene rules also applies here. In addition, the maximum number of people permitted, which is clearly displayed outside each meeting room, must not be exceeded. Those participating in an event are requested to provide their contact details (name, mobile phone, e-mail address) to enable contact tracing if necessary.

Due to the corona pandemic, some events cannot be held. As an alternative, the OeAW provides a wide range of online lectures. The OeAW's event calendar shows which events can be followed online. Video reports on research at the OeAW can also be found on the OeAW's YouTube channel.

How can I reach employees of the Academy?

The easiest way to contact individual employees is via their individual email addresses. If you do not know the email address, you can find an individual employee using the search function on the OeAW website. The main contact persons at the Academy headquarters are listed on the website. If you want to get in contact with the OeAW in general, please write to webmaster(at)oeaw.ac.at.

The website of the Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection offers current information about the coronavirus and the situation in Austria. 

How can I protect myself and others?

How can I protect myself and others?

According to the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), the following measures are recommended:

• Wash your hands several times a day with soap and water or a disinfectant containing alcohol.

• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.

• Avoid direct contact with other people (minimum distance 1 m).

Further recommendations can be found on the website of the Austrian Society for Hygiene, Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (ÖGHMP).

With regard to stays abroad, please note the current travel warnings from the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, which can also change at short notice.

If you suspect you are infected or have symptoms (most common: fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing), stay at home and contact the health advice call center on 1450. The number is available 24 hours a day. OeAW employees should inform their superiors immediately.

I am a visitor – when am I not allowed to enter the OeAW?

If you suspect that you are infected or have symptoms (most commonly: fever, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing) related to the coronavirus, you are not allowed to enter the OeAW. Please contact the health advice call center on 1450 and follow the instructions.
