The DIACOMET project has begun: Dialogue expands horizons
A new EU-funded project DIACOMET, involving ten European universities, media companies, non-governmental and research organizations, started with a kick-off meeting at Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) in Lithuania. The Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies (CMC) contributes to this project as one of the key partners. At the kick-off meeting, CMC was represented by team leader Tobias Eberwein as well as Krisztina Rozgonyi and Christina Krakovsky.

Im Rahmen des Colloquium Digitale „Digitalisierung, Mensch und Gesellschaft“ hat die ÖAW Studierende, Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene eingeladen, sich mit den komplexen Zusammenhängen der zunehmenden Digitalisierung auseinanderzusetzen. Die Veranstaltung fand am 20.04.2023 statt. Walter Peissl (Stellvertretender Direktor, Institut für Technikfolgen-Abschätzung der ÖAW) und CMC-Direktor Matthias Karmasin moderierten die Veranstaltung.

Verleihung VÖZ-FÖRDEPRREIS WISSENSCHAFT UND MEDIEN 2022
Der Verband Österreichischer Zeitungen (VÖZ) hat am 17. April 2023 den neu aufgestellten Förderpreis Wissenschaft und Medien 2022 verliehen: Der Förderpreis Medienforschung ging an Jana Egelhofer, mit dem Hannes Haas-Nachwuchspreis wurde Clara Peter geehrt. Tanja Traxler, Leiterin des Wissenschaftsressorts beim „Standard“, war die erste Preisträgerin in der neuen Kategorie, dem Preis für Wissenschaftsjournalismus. Juryvorsitzender war CMC-Direktor Matthias Karmasin.

CMC’s research group “Media, Politics & Democracy” has recently been awarded a Horizon Europe grant of app. 3 million euros for the project “Mapping Media for Future Democracies (MeDeMAP)”. The consortium led by Josef Seethaler consists of ten partner organisations from 9 countries across Europe.

The CMC welcomes Mr Chris O’Neill, a PhD student from the University of New England in Australia, as a guest researcher
Mr O’Neill is in Vienna for a month to conduct research on Karl Lueger, mayor of Vienna from 1897 until his death in 1910, and Lueger’s cult of personality as it developed in the newspapers of fin de siècle Vienna. While in Vienna, Mr O’Neill will be visiting a range of archives, including the Wiener Stadt- und Landesarchiv, the Wienbibliothek im Rathaus and the archives of the Karl von Vogelsang Institut.
