According to the mission statement, and with a clear focus on the Austrian media system,
research at CMC encompasses

  • the structural conditions, contents, and effects of politically relevant communication,
  • the ethics, accountability, and governance of public communication in times of media change, as well as
  • challenges, dynamics, and uses and effects of science communication in contemporary societies.

These complementary perspectives are reflected in the research group structure:

  • Media, Politics & Democracy (MePD; headed by Josef Seethaler),
  • Media Accountability & Media Change (MAMC; headed by Tobias Eberwein), and
  • Science Communication & Science Journalism (SCSJ; headed by Andreas Scheu).
