In general the holdings from the library, archive and collections are freely accessible to researchers and the interested public.

Searching and ordering

Online catalogue: Academy-CATalogPlus

Library: To order books via our online catalogue A-CAT you need a membership card; alternatively you can order via email (bibliothek(at)oeaw.ac.at) or phone (01/51581-1600). Usually, the ordered book is available for use/borrowing on the following working day.

Archive: Inquiries to the archive are preferred via email (archiv(at)oeaw.ac.at).

Woldan Collection: The holdings of the Woldan Collection can be ordered online and consulted in the reading hall. Please send inquiries regarding the Woldan Collection by email (sammlungwoldan(at)oeaw.ac.at).

Since the works from the archive and Woldan Collection can only be consulted in the reading hall, we kindly ask you to register in advance. We ask you to take the utmost care with all materials, in accordance with our rules for use.

Publications ordered from the library holdings are usually ready for collection the next working day. We ask you to wait for the electronic notification which you will receive as soon as your order is ready for collection.

Works published prior to 1901 may only be used in the reading hall; for conservation reasons, copies and scans of these works are possible to a limited extent. The following loan periods apply to all other holdings:
