Josef Seethaler on ORCID

Josef Seethaler is the leader of the research group “Media, Politics & Democracy”. He has mainly published on political communication, journalism, media systems and media history. He is a lecturer at the University of Vienna, a member of various scientific advisory boards and a reviewer for several European research promotion funds. Currently, he is the coordinator of the Horizon Europe project “Mapping Media for Future Democracies (MeDeMAP)” and the Austrian partner in several international projects, including the renowned “Worlds of Journalism Study (WJS)” and the “Media Pluralism Monitor”, funded the European Commission. Together with Gabriele Melischek, he contributed to the founding of the CMC’s predecessor organisation, the Commission for Historical Press Documentation, for which the ÖAW awarded him the Werner Welzig Prize in 2009.

Political communication, media and elections, media system analysis, social media, science communication, media history

Methodological expertise: Empirical social research (particularly content analysis, survey research, comparative methods), multivariate statistics
