Short Biography
Martina Schorn studied political science (BA), sociology (MA) and spatial research and planning (MA) in Vienna and Copenhagen. In July 2022 she completed her doctoral studies in geography at the University of Vienna with a thesis on strategies for a youth-oriented regional development in rural areas affected by youth out-migration in Germany and Austria, which was awarded the Theodor Körner Award in 2020.
From autumn 2017 to spring 2022 she worked as a predoctoral researcher and project assistant at the Department of Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna, where she was also involved in the Interreg Danube Transnational project "YOUMIG: Improving institutional capacities and fostering cooperation to tackle the impacts of transnational youth migration". Since March 2022 she is a researcher in the FWF-funded project "CURB: The Covid-19 pandemic as a disruptive force for urbanization". She teaches at the Department of Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna and in the Master's course "Cooperative Urban and Regional Development" at the Postgraduate Center of the University of Vienna. From August to October 2022 she was a visiting researcher at the Department of Built Environment in the Spatial Planning and Transportation group at Aalto University in Espoo/Helsinki. In addition to her work in academic research and teaching, Martina has several years of experience in youth research.
