Biography


Wiebke Sievers has been working as migration researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna since 2003. Since 2013, she has been guest researcher and teacher at the department of German-Jewish Literature and Cultural History, Exile and Migration at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder. Previously, she had taught at the University of Vienna, the University of Nottingham, and the University of Düsseldorf.

She has studied at the Heinrich-Heine-Universität in Düsseldorf, the Université Stendhal in Grenoble, and the University of Warwick, where she completed a PhD in Translation Studies. Her PhD thesis focused on the translation of contemporary German prose in Britain and France. She completed the postdoctoral qualification "Habilitation" at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder with a thesis entitled: „Postmigrantische Literaturgeschichte: Wege in eine neue Gesellschaft“ (Postmigrant literary history: ways into a new world).

She is a member of the executive board and chair of the board of directors of the biggest European research network on migration, IMISCOE. Together with Marco Martiniello, she additionally coordinates the IMISCOE Standing Committee Superdiversity, Migration and Cultural Change (DIVCULT). With Rainer Bauböck, she is co-editor of the series „Migration &“, which aims to make international migration research accessible to a wider German-speaking readership.
