Hanneke Friedl was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1972. She studied Reformed theology and Semitic languages in Pretoria as well as Catholic theology in Vienna. Her doctorate on the word ‘brother’ in the law codes of Leviticus and Deuteronomy was completed in 2018. Her research interests include social ethics and the Old Testament as well as law and the Old Testament. She has been doing proofreading and translation work since 1995, a function for which she is responsible at the ISR, along with other academic support duties.
