Research Infrastructure Programme

The Austrian Academy of Sciences published two calls for proposals for the New Frontiers Research Infrastructure Programme in 2013 and 2015.

The New Frontiers Research Infrastructure Programme is intended to:

  • support cutting edge research infrastructure and in this way to strengthen the infrastructural situation of the ÖAW institutes;
  • help to renew and expand the research portfolio in an innovative (i.e. showing a great affinity for risk) and forward-looking manner;
  • help increase the attractiveness of the ÖAW institutes for internationally successful researchers;
  • attract and support junior researchers with an emphasis on gender equality in the sciences;
  • serve the implementation of the government research strategy with a focus on improved cooperation with other university and non-university research institutions.

The Programme is designed as ‘open-topic’. An independent jury evaluated the proposals on the basis of international expert opinions. The Presiding Committee selected the following projects in May 2014 (first call) and April 2016 (second call):
