Exploring the peoples of Europe from scratch

Medieval tribes originated rather from cultural common ground than from genetical affiliations. This is one of the results of an ERC funded project under the direction of Wittgenstein Award Laureate Walter Pohl at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. It has surveyed how Europe´s contemporary ethnic-political map has evolved in the middle ages.
