Kirsten Rüther is Professor of History and Societies in Africa at the Department of African Studies at the University of Vienna. Her research interests include the study of

• Entangled histories of mission, colonialism and religious change in Southern Africa, 19^th-20^th centuries
• Infrastructure and late colonial/ early independent housing (Zambia)
• Transnational biography and family history, 19^th-20^th centuries
• Health (healing) and popular culture in South Africa, 20^th century
• Empire/ Apartheid, religion and photography

She also has a sustained interest in doctoral education and is currently directing the working section on “Global Entanglements and their Narratives” at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Cultural and Philological Studies at the University of Vienna.
