Objective

Grain instability in nanocrystalline metals has been a long-standing concern in the community owing to the dramatic influence onto the mechanical properties and so for example directly onto the service lifetime of a component. The mechanisms of deformation-induced nanograin-growth, which is more observed under cyclic loading rather than under monotonic loading, are still not fully understood. Special focus in this project is given onto the influence of the type of strain (magnitude, cyclic or monotonic), temperature and fundamental deformation mechanism onto the grain coarsening.
