The aim of this project is to produce the first Sanskrit edition of the complete Apoha chapter of Jinendrabuddhi’s Pramāṇasamuccayaṭīkā and to explore the work’s intertextual relationships with other works of its genre. Despite its outmost importance for research on the epistemological tradition of Mahāyāna Buddhism, until now the Pramāṇasamuccayaṭīkā has only been known from its translation into Tibetan. However, the Sanskrit text has now become accessible through a photocopy of a late twelfth-century Sanskrit manuscript recently made available to scholars.

From this manuscript will be produced a diplomatic edition. Moreover, a text-critical edition of the Pramāṇasamuccayaṭīkā’s Sanskrit text is being prepared using the Tibetan translation and further relevant Sanskrit texts for evaluation. The critical edition will also reflect the work’s intertextual relations.

Closely connected to this editorial work is also an examination of the manifold relations of the Pramāṇasamuccayaṭīkā to other works, as well as its role in the development of the epistemological tradition of Mahāyāna Buddhism.
