Tibetan Studies has been defined as a distinct research group at the Institute since 2017. Research in this area was formerly conducted under the umbrella of Buddhist Studies, and there is still a great deal of interconnection with this field. The current research foci are the philosophical literature of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, including associated scholarly practices, within the larger cultural and social context, historical and religious inscriptions, and origin narratives.
