Tibetan epigraphical sources have been the object of several research projects that have been undertaken at the University of Vienna and the Austrian Academy of Sciences since the early 1990s. Within the framework of these projects, numerous inscriptions have been edited, translated and studied from a philological, historical and anthropological perspective. Two projects at the IKGA—“Historical and religious inscriptions in mNga’ ris (Western Tibet, PR China)”  (2013–2018) and “The Jātaka inscriptions at Zha lu Monastery” (since 2019) — have been made possible through the financial support of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
