Für seinen aus christlicher Sicht verfassten Kommentar zum Bodhicaryāvatāra wurde Perry Schmidt-Leukel von der amerikanischen "Society for Buddhist Christian Studies" mit dem renommierten "Frederick J. Streng Award for Excellence in Buddhist Christian Studies" ausgezeichnet. Das Buch erschien 2019 gemeinsam mit einer neuen englischen Übersetzung des Grundtextes durch Ernst Steinkellner und Cynthia Peck-Kubaczek.
