Susan Lindquist, accomplished scientist and former IMBA SAB member, has died at age 67

Susan Lindquist was a valuable member of our scientific advisory board (SAB) from 2007 to 2012. With her knowledge in biomedical research, she made numerous, invaluable contributions to the study of protein folding and the consequences of misfolding. Her research transformed budding yeast into a model organism for studying human disease, evolution and biomaterials.

Lindquist received her PhD in Biology from Harvard University and was the Albert D. Lasker Professor of Medical Sciences and a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Chicago. From 2001 to 2004, Lindquist served as director of Whitehead Institute — becoming one of the first women in the nation to lead a major independent research organization. In 2004, she resumed her research focus as an Institute member, an associate member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and an associate member of the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT.

We are grateful to have known her and are convinced that that her spirit and attitude have transpired into the lives and works of many of us. Our condolences and deepest sympathy go to her family.
