Book Project: Austrian Media History

Abstract


The aim of this book project is to present a media history of Austria in terms of cultural and social history. This social and cultural historical approach is based on the interaction of social development on the one hand and media change on the other hand. The focus of interest therefore is not an exact reconstruction of the development and changes of the particular media genres in Austria, but to analyze the interdependencies of social and political changes as well as media developments and innovations in the course of time.

The publication comprises two volumes. The first volume "From early printings to a differentiated media system (1500-1918)" was released in 2016, the second "From Mass Media to Social Media (1918 to date)" was published in 2019.
