Abstract
Book reviews play an important role in the scholarly ecosystem. As a form of academic self-reflection, they make new research visible, assess its significance, and contribute to the ongoing development of disciplinary debates. The online journal rezensionen:kommunikation:medien (r:k:m) has established itself as a central review forum for media and communication studies. It provides a comprehensive overview of current scholarly publications in the field, helping readers navigate the continuously expanding body of literature. At the same time, r:k:m serves as a valuable resource for media professionals, policymakers, and civil society.
Founded in 2009 as a collaborative initiative of TU Dortmund University, Ruhr University Bochum, and the University of Duisburg-Essen, r:k:m has published more than 800 reviews of significant scholarly books. Since 2026, the journal’s editorial leadership and operations have been based at the Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies (CMC). Reviews of recent German-language and international publications are published on a regular basis.
