»New Kingdom Pottery from Dahshur North«

The Middle and New Kingdom cemetery at Dahshur North is situated approximately 2 km northeast of the Red Pyramid in Dahshur. Thus far, the Japanese mission’s excavation conducted by Higashi Nippon International University since 1997 has revealed nearly 200 tombs at the site, including pit tombs, shaft tombs, and tombs with superstructures. Among a variety of funerary objects, a large number of New Kingdom pottery has been uncovered in these tombs which are dated from the late Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasty. This lecture will give an overview of these New Kingdom pottery and the results of the study which reveals some aspect of function of pottery vessels associated with funerals.
