The goal of this Post Doc project is the comparison of the use of cosmetic utensils (kohl-pots, -tubes, -sticks, palettes, “cosmetic” spoons, tweezers, “curlers”, “trimmers”, razors, mirrors) and substances during the New Kingdom in Nubia with their use in Egypt. This is done in order to investigate how much did the body care in Nubia change after the Egyptian conquest in the New Kingdom, and if there are differences in care for the body in centres and peripheries during this period. This lecture will present the first results of the project. These are based on the study of published objects, iconography and textual sources, conducted during the guest research stay at OREA (February 2018 – January 2019), and based on the studies of objects conducted in several museums during this period (Egyptian Museum Georg Steindorff-Leipzig, Gustavianum Museum-Uppsala, Rijksmuseum van Oudheden-Leiden).
