Biography

Jill is a postdoctoral researcher at the ISR working on a City of Vienna Anniversary Funds project focusing on post-Yugoslav migrant researchers in Vienna and their contributions to the city‘s knowledge economy.

She completed her PhD in anthropology and gender studies at the University of Melbourne’s School of Social and Political Sciences in 2025. Her dissertation explored the drag performance community in Belgrade, analysing these queer practices through the lenses of care. She argued that in Belgrade, drag acts as a form of care for self, the city and community, responding to the losses experienced during postsocialism and the affective state of „postsocialist melancholia“.

Jill’s other research interests include migration, urban transformations, and experimental research methods.
