Personal Share und Project Share of the ARZ of the OeAW

Storage of personal and project-related data

OeAW employees have access to centralised storage space in the form of network drives, which allow access to the same data from different stations. The shares are of course backed up automatically.

1. Personal Share (H:)

  • A personal drive is only set up for employees of the OeAW.
  • It is intended for personal matters of the employee and is limited to a size of 5GB.
  •  Only the owner has access to the personal drive.
  •     If the employee leaves the company, the drive will be deleted by the ARZ no later than one month after leaving

2. Project Share (all further network drives)

  • Project drives are set up by the ARZ at the request of the institute.
  • For each project drive, it is possible to specify which persons are to receive read/write authorisation.
  • The project management as well as the department and institute management determine who has access to the project data.
  • If project staff leave the institute, the project directories remain the responsibility of the institute management.
  • Projects with larger storage requirements (500GB or more) must be notified to the ARZ as early as possible.

3. Completed Projects

For the (long-term) archiving of research data from completed projects, please contact the Unit Digital Archaeology & Classics (DAC) at oeai-dac(at)oeaw.ac.at .

oeawCloud

Sharing Data

All employees of the OeAW have access to 10 GB of storage space in the oeawCloud, which can be increased to 20 GB upon request. The oeawCloud is used to store data in a central location that can be accessed via different computers and architectures. The oeawCloud should primarily be used for data that you are currently using or that you would like to share with someone else.

Access is possible with your personal OeAW username and password.

You can either access your oeawCloud via the Internet at

oeawcloud.oeaw.ac.at

or use a local Nextcloud client installation. The installation instructions and a manual for using the oeawCloud can be found on the OeAWeb under ARZ/Services/oeawCloud.

ACOnet FileSender

Sending Data

https://filesender.aco.net

The Austrian Academy of Sciences is a participant in the Austrian Academic Computer Network (ACOnet). Therefore, the ACOnet Acceptable Use Policy is also mandatory for employees of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

The ACOnet File Sender is a web-based tool for making (large) amounts of data directly accessible to other people. Data traffic with other ACOnet participants and with scientific networks as well as any uploads are free of charge. Currently, the maximum total size of a file transfer is 250 GB.

With regard to data protection, data security and confidentiality, it is strongly recommended that the ACOnet File Sender is used in preference to commercial file sharing providers.
