Description
PURE is a product developed by Elsevier and and is being used at the Austrian Academy of Sciences under the name ACA-RIS as a new, comprehensive research information system. ACA-RIS replaced the previous research information system, AkademIS, on 1 January 2025.
The OeAW has licensed the following modules:
- Core Module: In this module ACA-RIS manages master data (such as organizational units, persons, user profiles and journals) as well as research data (»research output«, lectures and other »activities«, ...).
- Reporting Module: This module provides you with a flexible report generator.
- CV Module: This module supports the creation of personal CVs
The regular entry of your own research activities in ACA-RIS is mandatory for all employees of the OeAI.

How do I get access to ACA-RIS?
The data required for access to ACA-RIS will be reported directly to Quality Assurance by the Human Resources Department of the OeAW at the beginning of your employment. Access is guaranteed by means of the individual OeAW login data.

What must be entered?
All research outputs such as publications, lectures and poster presentations (scientific and popular science) as well as project-related events must be entered (please note the following information). Only one entry is required for joint publications/presentations. Consult with your colleagues and link all participants. If you have organised an event and given a lecture as part of this event, link the lecture to the event.
Note: All OeAI events [= (co-)organisation by the OeAI] that are paid for from the budget of the Communication unit are entered exclusively by the responsible colleague in the Communication unit. Links to individual events can of course be established. Workshops that are held as part of projects and paid for from the respective project budgets must be entered by the organisers themselves.
Note: ACA-RIS recognises duplicates and issues a message if there is an identical or similar entry. To avoid duplicate entries, follow the instructions and check whether it is the same entry.
Why has my project not been created?
Before creating a new project, it must be discussed with the responsible head of the department and approved by your OeAI director. After receiving approval, please send an e-mail with the following information to your responsible ACA-RIS supervisor so that the project can be created in ACA-RIS:
- Submission date
- Acceptance date
- Target and actual start date
- Target end date
- Title German or English
- Research group affiliation
- Cooperation partners
- Funding program with indication of the project number
- Employees
When must scientific research be entered?
It is advisable to enter data as soon as possible. However, it is important to complete the data entry by the end of January of the following year at the latest, as the OeAW retrieves the data for the OeAW Annual Report of the previous year during this period. Everything that is entered by January 31 of each year at the latest will be included in this report. Reminders will also be sent to the OeAI team in due time.
