Short bio

Luigi Singh studied History at the University of Bologna, with a focus on Sanskrit and the cultural and intellectual history of South Asia. He is currently a PhD student at the Department of South Asian, Tibetan and Buddhist Studies of the University of Vienna under the supervision of Prof. Birgit Kellner.

Singh’s research project aims to study the Sahopalambhaniyamasamarthana, a philosophical treatise by the tenth century Buddhist author Jitāri that aims to defend the use of an epistemological argument, known as the argument from necessary co-apprehension (sahopalambhaniyama), as a proof of idealism. This project will produce the first editions and translation of this work, and explore the development of the sahopalambhaniyama argument through the long history of debates surrounding it.
