Academic Background

Saskia Hagemann completed her bachelor’s degree at Paris Lodron University Salzburg. In 2025, she graduated with distinction from the University of Vienna with a master’s degree in Behavioral, Neuro- and Cognitive Biology. In her master’s thesis, titled “Fundamental and Dominant Frequency in Bird Vocalizations: A Comparative Analysis,” she analyzed and compared calls and songs of songbirds as well as calls of non-songbirds. She continued to develop this project after completing her degree.

Since September 2026, she has been a PhD candidate in the Biology Cluster at ARI.

Current Research

Saskia’s research aims to investigate whether language-like components can be found in animal vocal communication.
